Five Hundred Miles - Jab Koi Baat
powered by ODEO
'Five Hundred Miles', a famous ballad about a man who is painfully far away from home became a folk staple through Peter, Paul and Mary's version on their No. 1 debut album, 'Peter, Paul and Mary' (1962), and country-singer Bobby Bare's crossover album 'Top 10 hits' (1963). In 1989, "500 Miles" was returned to the charts by The Hooters, a Philadelphia rock quintet, in an entirely new treatment. However, most believe that quieter renditions like The Kingston Trio's are closer to the true spirit of the song.
In 1990, the rendition by Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs inspired Rajesh Roshan's Hindi version 'Jab Koi Baat Bigad Jaye' which he used in the film 'Jurm' (Kumar Sanu, Sadhana Sargam). 'Jab Koi' comes as an excellent adaptation with some great lyrics!
Here, I've made a humble effort to combine these two masterpieces; a tribute to the essence of the two songs. Hope you like it!

I loved your blogs. Keep them coming. I dont understand bengali but
loved the music... Keep it going dear, you are amazing.
Very nice compilation of two beautiful songs. keep up the good work mousumi.
The fusion smooths in through as if it were the whisper of the evening southern wind. Very well done Didi! I really appreciate your effortless delivering of two foreign languagess.
However, it is my personal opinion that the song would whisper better with a bit more pace. Aar ektu dhruto loy holey bhison bhalo lagbey. Also, little more instrumentation/orchestration will definitely help.
I hope these critical comments do not take away anything from the fact that I am immensely liking the song. Very well done.
wow...this was really sweet...my first time here...really really enjoyed it...nice job..can u share the karaoke track please...thanksss
Wonderful job Mousumi. Your voice at its sweetest best. :-)
MOUSUMI is the name of a GENIUS who has not been focussed in the so called music industry (fortunately or unfortunately?). And I feel that is the main reason why her songs are so sweet, so beautiful. No commercialisation could touch the song, rather the touch of a sweet hand that of her great dauguter Amrita made the song more sweet. I could enjoy this song much better than that of the original song sung by the great singers.
Keep it up, Mousumi, I foresee the great days are coming!

NICE ONE KEEP GOING WANNA SEE U TOP OF IT
something is to realise,if want to express those things.....you simply cant do it. you have think and realise.
the composition is so universal that, it is better to realise not to talk about this song,as well as mousumi.
Thank you.
I learned 500 Miles from a songbook when I was little. It's interesting to hear your interpretation.
Hey Mousumi is simply superb. sweet voice. Good nature and caring. She always sings great but humble so much that says it a little bit
Real good try. Wonder anyone ever thought of this before. I have been looking for the full English version MP3. Can you add that link to download it? The english pronounciations and the endings are very good. Kudoos to you and the music team. Just one point...the hindi version the words prolong a bit at the end unlike the english ones (Jab koi mushkil pad jaye... rater than just jaye) adding beauty to the song and makes it really Indian.
WoW what can i say ,,,
Really i don't know how to express.
Songs are sweet and melodious .
I don't know Bengali but i can get into the groove of the song ! Really
